Whether you've worked your way up to CEO / Administrator, or you've been otherwise tasked with leading the administrative efforts of the organization, you're going to have shortcomings. We're not suggesting that you go out and learn the in's and out's of every department. Rather, we're looking to advise. mentor, and provide resources that will give you sufficient knowledge and understanding to ensure what you're being told actually makes sense. Further, a knowledgeable Administrator is able to give the team better guidance, which ultimately results in more confident leadership and more effective and efficient processes.
Look to any African university offering graduate healthcare administration degrees or certificates, and you'll find a few. Look further into those degrees and you won't find a single university offering FINANCE FOR HEALTHCARE ADMINISTRATORS, or RESOURCE MANAGEMENT FOR THE HEALTHCARE ADMINISTRATOR, or other needed classes. What you will find, is one or two offerings around the subject of Leadership.
As a senior executive, MD, or Administrator, would you rather your new Finance Director start day one (1) fully briefed in leadership theory or (2) having a full and practical understanding of financial flow within a health system?
When CEO's / Administrators find themselves in need of feedback or someone willing and able to express unpopular opinions, there are very few places to turn. The members of AfCHCA are here to help one another ... we're here to build a better system for everyone.
Members interact through discussion roundtables and/or seminars. Also, as our membership grows, there will be more opportunity to interact confidently and confidentially, with your peers.
